Video - Researchers Develop 'Terminator' Contact Lens
Submitted by gaf on December 11, 2011 - 21:06
Imagine watching a soccer game or reading a book just by looking through your contact lenses. Researchers at the University of Washington have developed lenses that have an antenna. Just like the cyborgs in the 'Terminator' movies, this allows images and texts to be transmitted to the lens. The lens is constructed of a polymer substrate, light-emitted diode, antenna, and an integrated circuit to harvest the wireless power. The researchers used micro-thin Fresnel lenses with a blue-LED to ensure the lens was not sensitive to the retina. While the technology can only transmit one pixel at a time right now and has not been tested on humans, it could one day make screens obsolete.
